Need input for laptop computer....

Post by Rooster »

I'm looking at purchasing a laptop...I guess stop motion filming falls ito Photography and art..... :? ....the laptops main, and most likely only purpose, will be to handle stop motion filming software, so I can put my mind to use and make some films, I have a cam corder but to capture true single frame animation, I need the software, and the camera must be connectedto the software, and I'll need it to be portable as well so a laptop will be in my best interest, problem is, I dont really know a dang thing about laptops, so I'm not sure as to what I will I need (30 gb, kb whatever that stuff means, lol) I just need something that will do the job so I can get started.

Look at Dell's website... or talk to a Dell rep. to find out what computer will suit your needs. Then go to the DEll Outlet and buy the same computer certified refurbished for a lot less $$. I have done this a couple times and have had no problems with the refurbished computers. You will save a couple hundred dollars.

Keep in mind that you don't need a super large hard drive IN the computer. You can get 500 gig external drives for about $100.
What you do need is a lot of "RAM" in the computer. 2 or 3 gig

Very Very True. I would say that if you are buying it for video work you would want 3 to 4 gig of RAM. You can always get something like This for an external hard drive. It would take you a while to fill up 1 terabyte of space.

The more real memory/ram you can get the better.

If you are goingto use external hard disk fro storage or rendering, make sure you get a lap-top with a firewire interface/port, and external drives with firewire. This interface to/from the computer is faster.

I've talked to Dell, they were very helpful I did find out its going to be quite expensive, I'm not cutting corners, I'm forking out the extra cash for the best quality stuff, so its going to take a little bit of time so I can actually save the cash, to buy it, but this is something I really want to do so its going to be well worth the investment. Thanks all for the help, and input Its greatly appreciated.
