R.I.P. Capt Mel Berman

Post by DaveR »

Just heard on 970wfla that Capt. Mel Berman has passed away. This is indeed bad news for the Tampa Bay fishing community. I'm sure he, Jay, and The Canoe Man are looking down on Mullet Key bayou right now seeing what they can see.

Sad news indeed. One of the true "Old Salts" here in the TB area. You can be sure that Salty Sol Fleischman is with them there, too.

Rest in peace, Capt Mel, you were always a gentleman. You made a positive impact on our community, your family should be very proud of you.

Please accept prayers and condolences from my family.

I remember a time when many of the members of this forum called Mel's home, we all owe him so much. Rest in peace Mel.

My prayers go out to his family. People are posting condolences all over the web. A man had posted this prayer, which I thought is a fitting tribute to a good man. RIP Mel

I pray that I may live to fish.......
Until my dying day.
And when it comes to my last cast,... See More
I then most humbly pray:
When in the Lord's great landing net
And peacefully asleep
That in His mercy I be judged
Big enough to keep.

There's no disputing that Mel played a part in this group we call Paddle-Fishing.com coming together. Many of us started conversing via Mel's forum and the elders deemed it necessary to create our own universe. Poof - this website was born.

Mel was a respected businessman and broadcaster and an icon in the local fishing community. His voice traveled on the waves of technology and spread beyond the listening area as his internet forum grew. The community and industry lost a longtime contributor today.
