JAX Camping

Post by GILs_GONE_WILD »

I'm still considering the Jax fishing tourney. Has anyone camped there?

Preferably a campground with a separate tent section.

Recommendations please?

Did you ask this question on the Jax forum?

Not a member of the forum there but guess I could join and ask. Good tip, thanks.

Thanks Lime Cider. Hanna Park looks cool. Would be nice if I could grab one of those "Cozy Cabins". For $13 more per night I'd leave the tent in the attic for sure. :D

Cool, I actually camped/lived there for 45 days in the late 80's. It's huge park with lakes and on the Atlantic Ocean.
Mayport Naval Base is about a mile north of there on the mouth of the St. Johns' River. The only river in North America that flows south.
It has a very soft muddy bottom, with oyster bars. The water there is always dirty/unclear because of the lack of filtering grasses. The area is in a sort of eddie from the powerful Gulf Stream. Reds, Trout, Flounder.
Good luck, maybe I'll see you there.

I grew up around 8 miles south of Hannah Park. If you surf, The Poles is a break at Hannah Park. Due to the South jetty and the curve of the beach a N.E. wind there is side shore and the waves aren't blown out on a Nor Easter. The St. Johns flows North.

WATCH THE TIDES.

I think you meant north.
Over every mountain there is a path, although it may not be seen from the valley

You have to be hardcore to get the river to flow south.

When I was a kid my dad and I would walk the seawall by the carrier basin at Mayport NAS, he was a Naval Aviator, drifting a jumbo shrimp and load up on some of the biggest Weakfish I’ve ever seen.
