Rod Rack

Post by madmarco »

Recently I've increased my rod and reel inventory,
and now I need a rod rack. Just wondering who uses
rod racks and which model. I do not want to hang them
on the ceiling. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cabelas has a number of different sized freestanding racks.

Saw a couple different styles at Dicks yesterday. I believe the starting price was around $25. Styles look like pool cue racks to me

Madmarco, I found these at Bass Pro last month and thought it would work well in my over filled garage since it was on wheels and could be moved around easily.

Just be careful if you order one. I had to send one back from Bass Pro. When I got it, whoever tried to put the drawers together, botched the job and then tried to fill in the bad holes unsuccessfully and when that didnt work, they just threw the parts into the box and sent it on  I finally waited till I was able to physically go over there and see one in person.
Again when I got home, it was smaller than I had hoped for. I mean the spacing between the rod locations were too small. It makes it impossible to fully fill the rod holders completely unless you just put a rod without a reel attached in some of the blank spots :x
The one pictured from Bass Pro might be a better fit. They were out of those when I went.

I've got one of those on wheels from BPS, had it for four or five years and it has held up well. If I had more available wall space I would have just made one but I was limited and the fact that it is easily movable is convenient.

A real fisherman just throws them in a corner of the garage.

I have one each of the the BPS rolling rack for around $80 & one of the cheaper round ones for around $40. Had them both for about 10yrs & both are doing fine. If I get another it would be the round one without wheels for $40. I like the positive rubber clips that secure the rods on the round one.

I looked at the ones on Cabelas with the
storage drawers, they look good..
But finding other similar styles is difficult.

I had a buddy who just took cup hooks and lined them up, put heat shrink over them to protect the guides and hung them from a guide, seemed like it was 2 or 3 down from the top. Also, I took a milk crate and placed PVC holders around it and just use that. Could hold a lot of rods and reels if you alternated reel in/reel out alternating row. John

PS be careful of low ceiling. No longer keep them in the tack room when using milk crate. The 5 gallon bucket mod did not work for me either.

I wouldnt mind storing them on the ceiling, I just dont want the rods bending, and taking a bowed shape.

I bought a section of PVC and some elbows and T's. An hour later, I had a perfectly custom rod rack. Maybe $25.
