Re: Crack 300 reels

If you have interest in the history, the ORCA site (old reel collectors association) would be the place to get it. The cost for info is small, something like a dime per page. Here's a short version. For all I know its the long version!

Re: Crack 300 reels

I thought the name was odd also when I first saw them. Actually it's an old French made reel. Its a tough one too. Here's a link to a couple pictures.

Re: Storing fish?

A little tip. For use with the cooler bag bring a small bag of ice with you and once your ready to put a fish in the bag add salt water and your catch will last all day.

Re: Stacked leather handle!

The weight is a bit much (4oz total fore and rear) but isn't an issue since its on the rear of the rod. If the blank were heavier it might make a difference but @2oz it still has a light weight feel. There's no tip weight to speak of which is what, I believe, puts excess pressure on your wrist. The ...

Stacked leather handle!

I've always liked the look of stacked leather so I decided to give it a try. It turned out pretty good for first try.

Re: Lame situation(al) advice

Gut hooking normally comes from having a slack line, not being able to feel the initial strike, which allows the fish to munch on your bait.

I'd have to give the guy credit for the idea even though the wheels are going to be a problem.

Re: New reel really works

Yesterday I used WaveSpin's newest model the DHXL. It's smaller than what I'm use to so it felt a little odd at first but worked fine and has more than enough stopping power. For such a small reel it's quite strong.

Re: New reel really works

Todd, I didn't see the reels fresh out of the box so I can't say one way or the other if the washers had been changed or if they came that way. I briefly spoke with Doug an asked if he had any returns or complaints from this issue. He said none but was concerned and wanted to get to the bottom of it.

Re: New reel really works

A couple weeks ago I picked up Heywood's reels from Doug at WaveSpin. Here's copy from an email I sent to him about my findings. "Doug, I went fishing yesterday and had nothing but trouble with the 3000 reels. Although I didn't have any major tangle problems I did have a couple small ones and c...

Re: Does anyone use this loop knot?

If anyone has used this knot and had it slip loose figuring it's a crummy knot, you've probably tied it incorrectly. The half-hitch has to run under then over the main line. If you reverse it by running the half-hitch over then under, it will slip under a load. If you tie it incorrectly, like I do, ...

Re: Reel advice

If your going to use mostly hardbaits you might consider the WaveSpin. Since you'll be doing allot of twitching its pretty easy to have knot problems and the WaveSpin will take care of them.
