strange shark behavior
Friday when the tide was so high I saw sharks with their tails in the air. It looked as if they were signaling by flagging. The tails were long and thin the shark almost black At times there were 2 doing this at the same time. This occurred on the flats at the back side of Honeymoon Island. When I g...

Re: Bug net
Noseeums are flies not mosquitoes deet repels mossies ok but not flies. Find a bug spray that contains picaridin and you will be in business. Sawyer makes an effective product for noseeums and mosquitoes. On off product look for ingredient rs232 fly repellent.

two jump Tarpon
Kayaking near Caladesi Island using 4 inch finger mullet. I heard my son shout HOLY CRAP!! When I looked over his kayak had made a foaming wake and his power pro was rapidly heading for the gulf. The Tarpon jumped 2 times before breaking the 20lb test leader. Good times. Who would expect a Tarpon in...

Re: St. Joesph Sound
When a new lure hits the scene the fish are suckers for it. After seeing 10000 copies they get the idea that it is a bad thing to attack that lure. I think this explains why my tackle box ends up with more lures than wal-mart. This is my story and I am sticking to it.

Re: flurocarbon - "the geeks don't want no freaks"
There is little difference in the various flurocarbon leaders tested. The next round put some mono leaders in the same picture. Then we can see if there is a difference.

Friday the wind blew
My son and I almost didn't go out Friday because of the wind forecast of 15 mph. It was fairly calm in the morning so we decided to limit the trip to noon before the afternoon blow began. The day was overcast, the tide was coming in, the moon is almost full. This is a day that adds up to no fish..WR...

Re: Pinellas County / Tampa Bay Newbie
Check out the destinations forum on this site. It has many launch points listed for the area. Honeymoon Island is a great fishing area. Upper Tampa Bay is another. Use Google Earth to find creeks, oyster bars and holes. Fish the mullet schools and prepare for exciting interaction with Dolphins.

I infer from your post that you were a mile offshore in the gulf. Do you look for wrecks or just drift 1 mile offshore? I would like to try this but fear keeps me inshore.

Re: Fort Desoto 11/2/2011
When I got ray bit it was like standing on a soldering iron. The best shot I ever received was when the Doc hit me with a local. I didn't even mind the clean out procedure. I bought a Kayak soon after and never looked back.

I have a measuring board and camera. It appears that I can only get a measurement of 22 inches in the photo. How do I get those 27 inch reds in the picture without taking 2 photos of the fish?

Re: Mon morn at Cockroach Bay
I have been catching blowfish lately. They leave those scoops in soft baits, this could be the cause of your missing tails.

I have had good luck with a chartreuse zara spook. The trout blow it out of the water as long as the water is calm.

Look at the box for the country in which it is manufactured. Once they go to China the reels aren't as well made. Japan makes good reels and noticeably higher quality than the same model or the improved model from China.
