Tide matters.
I fish around honeymoon and caledesi island. Last week the tide was incoming the water clear. There were a hundred snook in the pass most over slot. They were not biting as the snook usually do. A few days later same spot low tide water cloudy no snook. No fish either. I did see two large sharks 6 f...

Where are the fish?
So far this year fishing around caladesi and honeymoon has been below slow. I use artificals, bait, and persistence. The lack of action is most likely the reason there are a paucity of posts in this forum. The plastic navy is thick on the flats just no action.

Slow bite Friday
Launched crack of dawn at Dunedin Causeway. Caught 1/2 dozen pinfish for bait the trail logic kayak cart made launching over the rocks a snap. It adjusts to rocks and a 12 inch drop with ease. I would have fewer battle scars on the hull if I owned one years ago. Went to my favorite flats threw Mirro...

Re: Water has finally warmed up
Amen to the wind. I am also scouting for long beards. Patterned the shot gun yesterday I am so ready for turkey. The main reason I started Kayak fishing was the critters that brushed by while wading. Tarpon, manatees, rays, mud all served to get me out of the water.

g flex epoxy
My kayak was getting worn out bow and stern from dragging on the beach. I used the plastic g-flex from west marine to fill and repair scratches and the low spots it adhered and filled perfectly.

Re: saltwater_eat or catch and release
I keep the designated red fish on a stringer until time to go home. Then into the front hatch. Keep alert for sharks when using a stringer. They usually circle awhile before committing to your stringer. It could get "sporty" if one comes in. The quicker your fish gets on ice the better the...

Re: First catches of the year
North of the causeway in the deep hole I caught a keeper size Gag grouper. There is also a wealth of goliath grouper in the 6 inch size. The cold water and poor weather on my days off has resulted in skunk after skunk. February should have conditions improving to make fishing more than a great day f...

Wednesday on the flats.
Wednesday north of Dunedin causeway. I bought 2 dozen shrimp as backup along with a mini mirrodine. After 4 hours I used 4 shrimp and caught 1 rat red. On the mirrodine I caught the worlds smallest lizard fish @ 3 inches long. Great weather a good day on the water. I tried my new Kayak cart by paddl...

Re: 11-30 An Interesting Day On Buttonwood Bay
I have seen dolphins tossing fish to each other before. Like a game of catch. You only see these things from a kayak. How many turtles does a power boater see? Kayakers see them all of the time. Keep paddling.

Nailed it!
Redfish are plentiful on the flats near Honeymoon Island. They just wouldn't bite. I caught some 50 cent size pinfish for bait and caught 6 reds all under slot . I also caught a 29 incher over slot. It was great catching the reds but nothing for the pan. I used 20 lb test flourocarbon for leader. 30...

Re: Honeymoon Island
Went out today great weather. Big sharks on the flats 4 to 6 ft. Some action on doa shrimp but only half hearted. Switched to cut mullet caught trout, goliath grouper, 6 in size, and rat reds. The best 2 bites that pulled drag got away, one screamed out and could have been a shark or ray but not hoo...

Honeymoon Island
Friday, Dawn, dead low tide. When the tide turned redfish filled the flats. I sat in the school for 2 hours only 1 bite. The fish were tailing all around but would not play. Maybe with their noses in the sea weed they couldn't see my lures. Monday I went back but the wind went from 7 to 15 with high...
