You can fish the Trail out of kayaks, but it's extra hassle. There's plenty of fishing from the roadside. If one spot isn't working, it's easier to drive a couple miles up the road to the next bridge if you don't have to load the boats each time. You should be able to find some fish if you keep your...

you should have kept working the topwater, they'll come back to hit it. if they didn't feel the hooks hard enough. Topwaters, pi$$ the fish off, they will strike untill that clack clack noise shuts up. just keep her going next time, sometimes they will hit up to five times until you get a hookup. ....
