Re: Rookie Qstn #1
Over the years, I've probably used most of the floro leaders, Triplefish (never again), Yozuri pink, Vanish, Seagar, etc. The only one I really, really didn't like was the Triplefish. Several months ago I got a spool of this simply because of the price and it came highly recommended by a guide I kno...

Alaska - Talkeetna River
Enjoyed fishing interior Alaska, Talkeetna River. Guide took us up river, where we waded and floated back. Managed to get many Dolly Varden trout, Grayling and Rainbows. My wife, naturally, caught the biggest rainbow. Great time, strong current. Interesting to see how the glacial rivers mingle with ...

Re: How's fishing in Tennessee?
You are near Watts Bar. Pretty good bass fishing, both largemouth and smallmouth, as I recall and I think they also have plenty of crappie and some hybrid rock bass. Been years since I was there but the memories are good.

Re: What's the verdict?
I picked up a couple of these last year. Trout and snook seemed to like them, but the hookup to hit ratio was very low, even with ladyfish. Might have been better with a larger gap hook, I think I used a 4/0, and they are certainly weedless, especially if the knot is pulled into the bait. I might tr...

Re: Braids
Last time I spooled up with PPro at Holy Mackeral it was 9 cents/yd. That was some time ago, before I started using Fins.

Re: Jigs under rattle/popping corks
I add a popping cork frequently when it is too weedy to work a jig slow enough. Lately I have also been using it to throw a tiny swimbait to match the hatch.

A dearth of weed growth
I know the fish kills did some damage to the fisheries, including probably killing or at least driving south or west baitfish further than usual, but the lack of weed growth would seem to be a big factor contributing to slow fishing too. Areas that in past winters have been carpeted in weeds (though...

I've known Kurt for a while. He has been instrumental in clean up efforts on Clam Bayou. Makes his money giving ecotours and seems to be a sincere environmentalist. Takes out alot of photo tours, at least he used to. He has received a few grants for his efforts, including a free kayak rental for cle...
