Re: Swim Around Lido - Kayak escorts needed! Sunday, April 1

Guys, The race director, David Miner, reached out and they are really in need of more kayak escorts. It's a month away now. Please make a spot in your schedule to help with this. And don't forget about this - Each volunteer pilot receives a free race T-shirt, post race meal, special gift just for th...

Re: Paddle In / Swap Meet **March 7th - Fort Desoto**

Great idea Heywood. For those that don't know, a Paddle In is an informal get together. Show up when you want, leave when you want. There will likely be some sort of mini tournament going on that you can participate in or not. We may even have a casting competition or other fun things to play around...

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/16/7d26e4c4a50f2ebe30e777a625bfe744.jpg Found a few of these yesterday at Buttonwood. All in the 18-20" range. Weatherman called for a stiff NW wind so I figured I'd paddle north in the lee and then ride the wind back. He was wrong. It was a stiff NE win...

Stringers are only good for surprise entertainment. If you use one, please use a 20 pound leader in the line. Trust me, you'll want it to break away

Re: So Long Old Friend

I drive a 15 year old Nissan Frontier with 140,000 miles (low mileage, right?). I love this truck, my butt fits in the seat. It's hauled many kayaks many miles. . My son says it smells like an old boat inside. Makes me want to keep it another 14 years.

Re: High seat Native u-12

Looks like the weight is supported by the top of the tunnel as the stock seat/pan would be supported. Plus, it appears to be bolted through the gunwales, correct? I have a PVC platform but this looks interesting. I like the open path down the floor of each side. I'm going to look at removing the Nat...

Re: Swim Around Lido - Kayak escorts needed!

No, these will be serious swimmers. They have certain requirements that must be met and proven if you read the site. Even the 3 mile guys at the Frogman will say "that's a long swim". I expect that all of them will have a bag of 'nutrition' they give their kayaker.

Re: Swim Around Lido - Kayak escorts needed!

No, Greg, I haven't. May even be the first year for this swim. This one won't have current issues! The only real current flow, the early incoming, is when we'll be paddling into New Pass. We'll be riding any current there is. http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l123/rbl1954/tide1_zps45ba18b0.jpg~origi...

Re: 2015 Frogman Video

This was the 5th year for mine so he was well aware of the currents. We spoke beforehand about the currents and he knew that I thought they'd be stronger than last year so he never objected to swimming a line 'up course' early. Todd and I were in the same wave and our swimmers swam at virtually the ...

Tides are perfect. Slow incoming while we paddle into New Pass followed by a flat tide for the next 4 hours.

Re: Pig farms

I went to college with a guy whose family owned a large pig farm in North Dakota. Out there they just had long ditches that ran down a slope. Imagine -20 degrees and trying to wash pig crap down a ditch. I had the mispleasure one summer of being there when they were doing ditch maintenance after the...

Re: 2015 Frogman Video

And since I'm among family - this isn't the first pic I've seen or conversation I've heard about this backward rig. Given the life safety nature of the kayaker role, I am surprised (and not a little disappointed) that someone on the beach could not take those two minutes and gently straighten her o...
