Re: Red Tide Status Update (August 27, 2014) - NOT GOOD

There was a major fish kill that washed ashore on the north end of Honeymoon Island Saturday. I didn't notice the physical signs of red tide, i.e. scratchy throat and coughing, but there were tons of dead baitfish on the beach and a few big trout.

Re: Camera reccomendations

]There are a lot of good waterproofs out there. I used to have a Pentax, but I finally drowned it snorkeling. To replace it I did a lot of research and ended up with a Lumix TS20. At the time it was the best balance between quality and price. It is an older model but is still available new at a good...

Re: Best way to fill in voids in cork grips?

I use Elmer's Golden Oak Wood Filler. You can get it at any hardware store or even Walmart. It is the easiest way to do it and matches the cork well. You can also mix cork dust with wood glue, if you happen to have a lot of cork dust laying around. Most production rods have filler in the cork when y...

Re: 2014 Tampa Bay Frogman Swim Pictures

It was a great morning. This was my second year and the experience from last year really helped. Last year I though the purpose of the kayak escort was to just watch the swimmer to make sure he didn't drown. This year I realized that the escort was part of a team that keeps the swimmer on course pro...

Re: Tampa Bay Frogman Swim - still need kayaker help!

I will have two kayaks already since Cole will be with me. I will leave him over at the start so I only need one space to ride back in the morning. I won't have an extra space for a kayak, but I can run you back over to the start after the race, if necessary. The Kayak briefing is at 7:15am, so when...

Re: Tampa Bay Frogman Swim - still need kayaker help!

Last year I ferried people back from Picnic Island. I've got 2 kayaks going this year, so I would appreciate a ride back after dropping the car. Let me know what the plans are. Cole will be with me so he can keep an eye on the kayaks while we take the cars over.

Re: Miguel Bay Launch Tactics (the guard rail and wall)

I launch my Prowler 15 there all the time by myself. It is real easy. If you look at the rail at the begining of the mangrove tunnel you will see two heavy wood support posts about 8 feet apart. I line up the kayak parallel to the rail, lift it up and set in on top of the posts. They a big enough to...

The Mark I never knew

Mark's final service was Sunday at Curlew Hills. I didn't know Mark well. He was with me on my first Kayak excursion along with Erick and Peter at his beloved Double Branch. I always spoke with him at the tournaments and fished some with him at Double Branch. I knew him as the quiet rock at all the ...

I tend to agree with Rik. The permanent connection could put some major stress on the scupper hole when you get wave action.

Truly, sad news. He was one of the first anglers to help me out when I first started kayak fishing. Jay, Mark B and Mark M. We've lost some really good ones.

Woundseal

I always carry a first aid kit, not only when kayaking, but anytime I am in the outdoors. One product I have been thinking about adding to the kit is Woundseal. It is a powder that you sprinkle onto the cut and it seals it immediately. It would replace superglue and is probably a better option. Has ...

Re: Anyone using Jim Teeny flyline made for kayak fishing?

Haven't used the Jim Teeny line, but I can't imagine developing one for just kayak fishing. I use a SA Mastery Redfish line that has a relatively short head so you can get casts out quick with minimal backcast. The Redfish line has a 21 foot belly and 4 foot front taper, while the Jim Teeny line app...

I will be donating the $25. In the mean time, do you think you could find a useful purpose for this?
