This forum needs some action. Bass and Bream 9-11-12
There is something to be said about the simplicity of fly fishing for bluegill. I love tossing a popper, letting the rubber legs quiver and being greeted by that classic slurp. If you were ever looking to get in to fly fishing this is surely the way to do it. Any rod from a 3-6 wt is proficient, and...

Re: PFCS #1 - "If it aint chartreuse, it ain't no use" - Sep
If one were to choose to fly fish, would one then be restricted to only fly fishing? Or could one fly fish, realize an hour in to the morning that he or she is terrible at fly fishing, break his rod in half out of frustration, and then switch back over to spinning gear?

Re: A rarity for me. And a crappy picture
I had one specific day in Lemon bay where in a matter of about 15 casts I caught 6 of them. All in one sandy hole tucked between some mangroves and a grass flat. Those 6 were the only ones I have ever caught... Was definitely a weird day for sure

A night of fly rod firsts 7-12-12
A night trip with Jared had been in the works for some time. Busy lives and an inherent lack of sleep had been seeming to get in the way lately though. All of the same questions came up again prior to Thursday night's planned trip. "How's the radar look? Tides? Should we just get to bed for an ...

First trip with my hat-mounted Playsport
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlEFD-eXe4c It's going to take some getting used to, but I think with some practice it will become second nature. I completely missed the money-shot of the topwater strike, but did manage a few nice jumps. I am pretty sure it was a fat snook, and he had a remora on hi...

First saltwater fish on the fly rod
Finally had a day off where I was free to to what I wanted upon waking up this morning, so I loaded up the kayak and went fishing. I brought my fly rod with intentions of using it until my arm fell off or I caught something, whichever happened first. I have caught about 1000 fish on the fly, its jus...

Re: Gasparilla Island 11/29
It has been low 70's starting to see some upper 60's with this most recent front yesterday and today. Another front or two and I will be heading up the rivers.

Gasparilla Island 11/29
Last week I nabbed a slot redfish for dinner in a short half hour trip, so naturally with more time to fish today I headed out to find more. Unfortunately they weren't where I left them, but in there place I did find the other 2/3 of a slam. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y66/grudzilla/0a81e2b0.jp...

Re: Myakka Morning
Did you go far enough up river to pass the county park at the end of Jackson St.? Im curious if its reopened yet. Great bream! I did not make it that far, but I can tell you about three weeks ago I drove to that park to check if it was open, it was and it was full of cars with roof racks and bed ex...

Myakka Morning
I set out yesterday morning to fish and drift the Myakka river. I put in at the Carlton Reserve kayak launch which is located on Border Rd. in Venice. This was the first time I have fished this section of the river. My plan was to paddle up river and fish and drift my way back to the launch. I broug...

CocoPlum Waterway (9 Mile Canal) North Port
Made it out to one of our area's lesser known freshwater paddle fishing destinations, the CocoPlum waterway in North Port. Some may also know it as the 9 Mile Canal. This is an easy spot to get to just off of US41 via North Port Boulevard. There is a very seldom used boat ramp located on the site of...

Just Getting Started
I'm not sure what the allure was for me, but for years now I have been kicking around the idea of fly fishing. I can say all I want that it stemmed from the countless times a docklight snook would pop on the disturbance my line caused on the surface as opposed to my shiny sparkly flashy 10 dollar lu...

Re: Redfish 06/12
You always have a high quality report whenever you post, if I was a rich man I would pay you to fish and blog about it. Great content as always and cool story with the redfish you caught twice. I always wonder about the fish I catch, if I or someone else has caught them before and how many times.
