Re: 2012 - 2013 Paddle-Fishing.com Challenge Series
If downtown St Pete isn't too far away, I would love to have the Pic n Sip for the Weedon challenge at my restaurant, the St Pete Brasserie. I know Harvey's is the place we normally go, but just thought I would throw it out there. More than happy to discount normal prices for all of us too. Would al...

Re: Ft. Desoto
Happy to report back that pulled a 37 inch Red out of the mangroves on Sunday. Thanks for all the info and I will def. be a regular out at Ft. Desoto! Caught several 30+ down there, but never that big. Well done! Post us a pic. I didn't do so hot in the flats yesterday, but ended up catching a 22&q...

Re: Ft. Desoto
As you head into Ft D, the road narrows from 4 lanes down to 2. As that happens, you will notice an area on your right where people launch all the time. Lots of mangrove islands just north of there. Good flats near the bridge just to the south. I use 1/2oz silver spoons, super spook jr's & when ...

Re: Ft. Desoto
Little late on the response, but Ft D is still one of my favorite spots in the bay area. In the past two years, I can honestly say that I catch more Reds there now than Trout. Snook are coming back. There are just so many great spots all over that area. Havent been out fishing much at all this summe...

Re: First Tarpon
Very jealous! I havent had any time to get out this year, and most days I could have gone, the winds have messed it all up. That is a beast of a poon though! Well done, sir. Well done indeed.

Re: Finding Redfish
The most important thing I have learned about reds is when the tide is rising, they like to be the first fish on the flats, so they are often found in water you can barely even get your kayak into. While I catch more reds with that idea, the bigger ones I have caught have been in 3 to 4 foot deep ar...

Re: Berkley Gulp Crab 4" for Tarpon
Only one I have even seen hooked was on a bait buster. The gulp crabs are good for reds and whatever else you wanna catch in the flats, but everyone I know uses live bait when they are poon huntin, even avid artificial users.

Re: Fort Desoto
If by heavy you mean a car, that might work. We used to camp there a lot before you could book online. It was empty back then. Now it stays pretty full. We have tried many things to keep the raccoons from getting our food while we were out paddling, but the only thing that worked was putting the coo...

Re: First trip with my hat-mounted Playsport
I still love my hatcam set-up, but I think next time around im going to try to he mine behind me. Someone put a killer video of a tarpon fight on here last year & the angle was perfect. A friend of mine has a similar set-up and set his camera to take pictures every few seconds rather than video ...

I earned that braid. And I was happy cause it's exactly what I prefer to use anyways. Still gotta give Todd hell about it though!

I want a poon this year!
3 years in row now, I've been right on top of them at times, but I have still yet to even jump one. I even almost got ran into by a school rolling past at Anna Maria last year, but not one bite. I've tried arties, pins, crabs, shad, ladies, whatever else you can think of & then some, but not one...

Re: Riviera Bay in St. Pete
There is also a new tackle shop a little further south on 4th st, and you also have a shop on Gandy on both sides of the bridge. The shop on the Tampa side of Gandy is the one place that normally has shrimp & crabs too. Open later & earlier than most shops as well. Weedon is the place to be ...

Re: PFTS Survey
Anyways.... So back to the question at hand now...... The Tackle Box is a great format because it gives us all the same advantage. We get one tournament to fish with what we are comfortable with. Some of the other formats are designed to get us all out of our comfort zones, but this tournament to me...

http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq123/trece00013/BiggestSnookByAFoot.jpg That would be 30# hanging out of this lil guy's mouth. And I have plenty of pictures 30+" reds that don't spook with my 30# either. On occasion, I will buy 25# too. Just use fluoro and you should be fine. I also like t...

Re: Island camping anyone?
I used to go to Shell a lot, but since they changed the laws, it's not worth the hassle. We also go to the little islands in Dunedin a good bit. Love it out there. You can launch at the marina & be an easy paddle from several islands. Just pick one, set up for the weekend, and right at first lig...
