Re: McGill Flats Blue Spinning Rod / Sabalos 3000

So...going on year 5 or 6 on one of my rods I thwacked it pretty good on a cast and the tip snapped. I called up Wright & McGill; same policy in effect for a broken rod; no questions asked $30 we'll send you a new one. It has a fancy white section towards the butt now; they moved the metal hook ...

Re: Found some reds, but....

Found the reds again today. Further out in the flats, just on the edge of grass (dying grass, just as jbdba01's article described). While I would like to take credit for the articles, most were written by the man, the myth Bill Heywood. His angling prowess is only surpassed by his rugged good looks...

Re: Found some reds, but....

Wow, thanks again. JB, great articles. And makes since. Was already using a 10lb. leader on my most productive rod. Yes, water is very clear. My mistake was not letting the lure settle and working the bottom. The redfish I did catch I let the fish catch up to the lure. I have most of the lures ment...

Re: Found some reds, but....

For reds there are two simple goto lures in my tackle box. The 3" rootbeer riptide mullet/paddletail, and the Johnson Sprite Spoon. I like the 3" paddletail as you can work it a variety of ways. Straight retrieve , jig it, and straight retrieve and pop. It will work - reds love it. I like ...

Re: Recommendation for a new reel

I've had the Penn Battle, Sabalo 2500/3000/4000, and Stradic FJ 3000. I would skip the Penn Battle series - it corroded out twice in one year. Good customer service bad product. My Sabalos (I have 5 of them - multiple rigs for multiple kids) are on year 5/6. These are decent reels and you get what y...

Something a bit different..."surf's up"

I had this happen a couple weeks ago and came across the photos. Kinda different...here's the obligatory morning sunrise shot. It was a bit breezy that day, but nice. http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n554/jbdba01/20141024/600_0001_zps5414c982.jpg Over the horizon you could see a cargo ship headin...

Re: Go Pro Advice

If you're being price sensitive and are willing to look at knock offs you may want to consider this. Just be on th elook out for "fakes" ones. You can google that.

20141115 - When in doubt look about

http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n554/jbdba01/20141115/600_0001_zps326cfc55.jpg The day had originally been planned to be a solo trolling for grouper day, but with one vehicle visiting the University of Florida, the truck had been relegated to violin duty in the afternoon. That left just enough ...

20141108 - The upgrade...

As bad as the weather was last week 11/1 (winds 20-25), the weather, tides, and temps this week really cooperated. My buddy and I actually fished 11/1 and he managed to get 2 snook and a couple smallish reds. I was spooling out on many cast. When the gusts hit 30 (estimate) it was pretty raw. He was...

Re: The next PFTS - your input please.

I'm probably the exception to the rule, but I typically won't know if I can make it until 2-3 days before and it's not until I'm actually in the truck that I know I'm going. So it's a booty call for me every time. That said regarding the format, the prizes and money make the gig more competitive and...

Re: MacDill Ferry - Part 3

Thanks. Sounds like it's slowly going to wither on the vine.

Sounded like a bad idea to start. A ferry that has one destination for a finite number of users.

I'm thinking natural gas powered buses in HOV/express lanes would have made more sense. Probably cheaper and more effective too.

Re: 20140901 - Laboring Day

It was a good/fun day...we left them still hungry/eating. I suspect it could have been one of those +15 Redfish days, but the girls had had enough and ya gotta know when to fold 'em.

Next time...
