First Redfish in 22-25 years.
Last time I went fishing for redfish was about 25 years ago when my grandfather took me. He passed away a few years later after a bad bout of cancer. He got better for a short time (we didn't know if it would last or not) and I told him when he was better we would go fishing. I never found time, col...

Re: New fishing rod/reel help.
Problem is that reel is out of my price range by a long shot. I am seeing prices from 179 to over 200. I am very much wanting to drop oz. off the rod/reel but anything you might recommend that is in the $100 range. The main reason for the distance is when I was down in Flamingo I came upon a large n...

Re: New fishing rod/reel help.
Yea Manning that was my idea. Going with a 2000 or 2500 series reel. I THINK I have decided on a Quantum Blu PT 2000 reel. http://www.basspro.com/Quantum-Blu-PTs-Saltwater-Spinning-Reels/product/1109050501089/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I was planning on going with a 10...

Re: New fishing rod/reel help.
OK thanks Norm. I will contact him. And with that extra length it would (at least for me) be called trolling and not casting......just saying.

Re: New fishing rod/reel help.
Who/what is a Phila? And one your first point if I had another 6"-12" I wouldn't be worrying about casting so much.

Re: New fishing rod/reel help.
Yea I am looking at a 2000 or 2500 series reel, just not sure what brand. They all have good/bad reviews. I mostly fish out of my canoe and can stand very easily so I typically get good distance. Did some testing with my 7' med action Star rod and I was putting a top water lure 150'+ out but that wa...

Re: Upper Tampa Bay 12/18/12
Sent you a message but the 26th will be a hard sell with the wife but if I can I will. Haven't fished the south end of the bay but I am game. Should be excellent weather.

Where are you going to be in Biscayne Bay and what days? If I can and it is after Christmas I will run out with ya. If you are going to hit North Biscayne Bay I can set you up on some good morning trout fishing.

New fishing rod/reel help.
I am looking to get a new rod/reel combo this coming year for bay fishing. I have 2 good combos for my top water fishing but I am looking for something for soft plastics (lighter lures) and skinny water fishing. I want to be able to toss very light weight jigs and swim baits. I was fishing in calf d...

I have yet to smoke a trout, been smoking the bluefish and macks, but now that you have made it sound so good it will be next.

Re: Zara Spook Jr.
Never tossed a Badonk but I will be as soon as I get on the water. This has and is going to be the longest I haven't fished since March and I still have a ways to go. Wont be till next year and .....maybe I will sneak out but so much to do.

Re: Zara Spook Jr.
I have to agree with you on the top water producing bigger fish. The guys I fish with use a wide variety of lures both sub-surface and top water. Top water tends to produce the bigger fish. My problem with top water is the afternoon bite is almost zero so I am going to start working sub-surface this...

Re: Winter negative tides

Re: Zara Spook Jr.
Walking the dog is very easy once you have done it once. Learning should be done in dead calm water. A pool is perfect. Basically you are going to make short pulls/twitches with a pause between. Basically the first pull will pull the lure forward and to one side slightly. The more you pause the more...
