Re: What reel should i get?

Shimano Spheros is the way to go in my opinion. Its a great all around reel, I use my 4000 to throw plugs (topwater, sebiles, mirrolures, etc.) But its still treated me well when the fish are only hitting soft plastics and my girlfriend needs a rod to use. Haven't had a problem at all with it, typic...

Where to launch a kayak in chokoloskee?

Making a trip down there tommorrow to pre paddle for an upcoming camping trip i'll be doing with some friends. Are there any good public launches? Or should I stick with the state park?

Another Day, Another Slam

Albeit a small one... The fishing this time of year is awesome. Find a grassy ledge with some water movement in the bay, and your gonna catch snook trout and redfish all day. I made it out in Lemon Bay on Saturday with a friend of mine, looking for some fun on the flats. Right off the bat I found a ...

Same place, same time today. Slightly different conditions, no clouds and a bit stronger winds. Started off slow with a small jack being it for the first hour, got mad and decided to paddle back. In the process of paddling back, I managed my first slam, a 16 inch trout coming first, a 16 inch red pr...

Impressive though, I had some fun with them off the docks in Roberts and Dona bay this time last year, might have to make a trip out there tommorrow.

Getting your feet as far apart as possible is key... aim for at least shoulder width apart. Wear some swim trunks out one day and dont bring any gear, and just practice, it comes with time.

Lemon Bay 11-3-09

Put in with no real plan, just to paddle and fish and relax and enjoy a little bit of time off from work and school. Seems like the days with no plan always provide the best fishing... Right off the bat I caught a 12 inch flounder, my first both from a kayak and on artifical. He ate an exude dart. h...

I try to a lot since I work on the island and it's just easy to put in when I get off in the morning. I haven't been able to for the past year since I've had school every day I've gotten off shift, but that's coming to an end and I couldn't be happier. I've had pretty consistent success with more of...

A bit more towards Placida, I have a tendency to call the island as a whole "Boca Grande," I wasn't exactly referring to the pass itself. Sorry for the confusion.

Boca Grande Flats

Fished the incoming this morning after work hoping to run into redfish, but happily settled when I found the trout. Caught quite a few, all at least 15 inches with 19 being the biggest. Could only hook them on topwater, they would chase a spoon all the way back to the side of my kayak but wouldnt hi...

I made myself a bait tube out of PVC. The basic schematic is outlined here... http://www.plasticnavy.com/bait-tube.htm I did modify it to my needs however. I used 4 inch PVC pipe, and used a normal PVC Cap for the back end of it and used a real cheap cap for the front that fits into the pipe instead...

3 rods, one rigged with a topwater, one rigged with soft plastics on jigheads, and a third rigged with a spoon or bucktail jig or D.O.A. shrimp or terroreyz, depending on my mood. To keep those in stock I carry a small old tupperware with 10-12 bags of soft plastics, and a small plano with 1-2 buckt...
