Re: RIGGED KAYAKS/CANOES - SHOW US WHAT YOU GOT!

I have a friend with a RAV4 and showed me his secret, pretty much same loading method.. but instead of plain carpet he uses a bathmat.. its rubberized on one side and carpet on the other.. the rubberized side does not slip when sitting on the rooftop when sliding the kayak on/off. I used one for qu...

Re: RIGGED KAYAKS/CANOES - SHOW US WHAT YOU GOT!

I have an SUV and here is the method I have use for several years now. First you need to put something on the to of the tailgate to protect it. I actually have an old foam boogie board with some carpet on it. I used to just use the carpet, but found I needed more padding to protect the car. I then l...

Negative Tide = Positive Restults

First let me say that I was NOT fishing with Shamus today and I have to attribute some of my success to the absence of the "Shamus Jinx". Launched just before 7 into a very empty Buttonwood Bay. There was so little water this morning that I had to skirt the mangroves on the left of the lau...

Re: I'm blaming the Mullet guys

I have another theory. How many of you have fished with Shamus lately and caught almost nothing? I fished with him Monday and just caught 2 small jacks. Worst day in months. Could it be the Shamus jinks?

Re: MirroDine magic

A couple weeks ago I pulled up next to the Sarasota County Sherrif's boat that was setting just off Whale Key. I told him that mullet boats had been running up on full plane all the way back into the Buttonwood channel all morning. He said that is what he was doing there to try and catch them. A sho...

Company coming. There are still lots of trout up at Buttonwood, if you know where to find them.

Re: SUP's (StandUpPaddleboards)

DaveR has fished for the past couple years from a Native Versaboard although he has a seat on it. I have fished for tarpon with a couple guys on SUP's. Basically they have a cooler strapped onto the board for storage and a seat when they need it. I also thing the one of the points of an SUP would be...

He is persistent, not very bright, but definitely persistent. Never let your kayak get between you and the waves. That will leave a mark for sure.

Re: Two Days On Sarasota Bay

Glad you got some nice trout for dinner! All the trout went home to fight another day. I am pretty much exclusively a catch and release angler. For me it is the beauty of being out there and seeing if I can solve that great big puzzle of catching fish. It is all good however your approach it. Spend...

Two Days On Sarasota Bay

I fished the last two day. Yes being retired is very, very good. Monday I launch off Long Boat Key at Durante park. There was zero wind so I decided to head out for long bar. Caught one trout on the way over. When I got there I fished the north side of the bar going almost to the west shore and the ...

Re: MirroDine magic

May hit it again tomorrow. Sure have been a lot of nice trout out there. There are also some big blue fish. Here is what they can do to a Mirrodine mini if they don't take the whole thing.
