For rod and reel, since no one else touched on this much, most of us on the flats prefer spincast to baitcast simply for distance. We fish shallow water, and use light baits that most baitcasters just can't throw. For an entry level rod and reel for arties I would highly recommend a shimano spheros ...

An added note in response to parking in the middle of the school... Many times spooked mullet will spook the reds that follow them, especially on clear days with clear water. But for the most part, it's like Todd said. Mullet are not a sure sign of reds, and it's especially true the farther north yo...

I took the plunge on a used Bote board flood and I love it for the most part. It's a great fishing platform (especially for fly fishing), great exercise, and a useful extra vessel to take friends on. Fishermans world on 19 north of tarpon ave south of alternate 19. Good people and they have a little fly section in back. All your tying accessories line and a few reels and rods too.

Anything slow with nice harmonies... Sometimes classical guitar, bluegrass instrumental numbers, maybe some florence and the machine... Helps me concentrate exentuates the whole calming experience... and Oh yea GO KNIGHTS!

What about just using some glue on your exposed threads? Any downsides to this? I am using a brush on glue and it seems to be working without any noted side effects.
