Re: Pasco County

I lived in Pasco in the late 80's but fished from shore. My in-laws bought the 1st home built in the Sea Forest subdivision. All of the canals were built before the lots were sold. It was great, all to myself. In the winter there were lots of reds in there and some big trout. Unfortunately this is w...

Easter Morning

I thought I would catch a Easter morning sunrise on the ICW and maybe find some reds cruising the last hour of the outgoing tide close to my home. At 7:00 am as I was approaching my targeted area, I noticed a school of something off to the side in maybe 6" to 8' of water. I'm thinking Jacks but...

Re: Canoe outfitters

Another option and not sure how your current seat is set up. I have a solo and took the existing seat out but left the side brackets in. I finished up a piece of birch 3/4" plywood to replace it and installed a pedestal base. If u look around there is some ergo, lightweight, thin bass style sea...

Re: Flounder

I have had some success with flounder in the winter. The trick is you have to really really slow down your retrieve. I like a white gulp shrimp on a red head 1/16 oz mission fishing jig with the winter clear water. Big sandy patches near grass in 5-6 ft of water depth seems to be best. It takes a lo...

Crystal River

I was up at Crystal River a couple of weeks ago for other reasons than fishing. Anybody ever fish around the mouth of the river and all the nearby islands? If so, any tips, experiences or thoughts on the area?

So Long Old Friend

As I just transitioned into the qualifying age for social security and the accompanying decline of muscle mass, I no longer wanted to car top and bought a F150. I retired what my wife called the, "Fish Car", she wouldn't ride in it, a 15 year old 4runner with 200k. Trading it in felt like ...

Re: Favorite Rod/Reel For West Coast flats fishing

I'm somewhat different where I go small. I primarily use two 6 1/2' and one 6' light action St Croix Triumphs. They are at the bottom of their price line ($80) but a good rod for the money. I like short rods, short handles, small reels. Sitting in a solo canoe they are lined up in front of me and ea...

Re: Go Pro Advice

I have one, I mount it on the GoPro mono-pod, approx. 8" tall with clamp. I usually have it clamped on the gunnel in front of me. I can swivel it around, face it up and down with one hand with a rod in my other. It's kind of stiff but improves with use. I read they have been used on motorcycles...

Re: Spring Bite

The funk continued on Sunday, though I did go somewhere I've only been once before, only one trout and an over abundance of ladies who would hit every cast. Of course one cut off a nice new mirrordine to brighten my morning. I did mange to see a big red hawg swim by, it looked like she was smiling a...

Spring Bite

Went to my go to, never fail, redfish spot on Sunday and other than one good blow up on a surface plug, I caught one jack the same size of the lure. No ladies, nothing. I'm thinking the water temp needs to jump another 5 degrees or so. Are any of you having the same experience or am I just in a funk?

Re: Incase there are some Sabalos fans out there!

I bought a 2 year no questions asked full replacement on a St Croix at Dicks I think for around $14.50. I usually don't do that but I had some other discounts at the time and it does make me breathe easier. I'm told they give you a gift card for the original purchase price.

Re: Fish Grip vs, Landing Net

I guess my notion of a net is thinking more about trout. I unhook normally at boatside without bringing them in, but now and then along comes a pig that I want to measure or of pic quality. Trying to prevent removal of their slime and concern for their soft mouths when lifting and handling is diffic...

Fish Grip vs, Landing Net

I've been thinking of going to a fold up landing net vs. my fish grip. Other than the size difference, the one I'm looking at is pretty functional. I always used a net with a elastic cord hanging on the back of a fishing vest in my wading days and was quite handy. Does anybody use a net?

Re: another weedon island question

I have spent a lot of time in the lower end of your chart but other than isolated reds I've never tore it up except one time years ago. A school of 17"ers hanging with some mullet I picked on for an hour or so. I usually go to Weedon looking for snook and I'm probably missing a lot. I have some...

Rik, you mention bomb hole as in singular. Not all of them are productive?

Re: Ft. Desoto

I know a guy that knows that area well and about 2 weeks ago, he took out 48 shrimp and came back in with 46. There wasn't even any bait stealers. This time of the year, I think it's hit or miss. I would think the bomb holes but I've never really figured them out. I did have a winter trout day, one ...
