First Rod Done
Well boys and girls, I am happy to report that I have pretty much finished my very first rod. After finally being able to throw it. I have come to some conclusions. I'm not happy with the guide placement and some of the epoxy work is a little thin but overall I think it was a decent first build. Her...

Gel pens. I picked up gold and silver from the walmart craft section. Cabelas, Jannsnetcraft carry them, too. I got a few of them from Walmart, Michels,Cabelas, and mud hole. med and fine but they all come out pretty thick if you ask me. I was just curious if there is some big secret to getting the...

How do you Write on blanks?
I'm not going to mess with decals so instead I'm going to write my info onto the blank. I'm familiar with the "technical" process of all including the finish coat but one little thing eludes me....PAINT MARKER SELECTION! Bro's I've spent $20 bucks on paint markers of all types from medium ...

Good luck with finishing those rods. I think you should put a chartreuse deceiver decal on all your rods. LOL, I've been working late hours lately, on top of that what little free time I get I try to spend on the water so I haven't even finished a rod up yet. Bro, I have 3 blanks sitting in the liv...

Re: Neat real seats
I came across this link on another board... I need a second job. Those are nice! A little too "craftsman" for my personal taste. I prefer a more industrial/modern style. You know, graphite seats, less wood more metal. None-the-less, I do reconize GREATskill and that guy has it to spare! A...

Just wanted to let you boys know, I ordered the REC reel seat I was talking about in the beginning of this thread. It is VERY nice! VERY light! It's nothing like the heavy thing Orvis puts on it's rods! I mean the Orvis zero reel seat is heavy, I swear it feels like its about 3-4 oz by itself! But t...

Oh really, Have you built with that blank befor or are you just refering to the action of the store bought rod? That rod uses those internal furrels right? It's not the typical male/female connection is it? I've been leaning toward the Cabela FT or the Rainshadow rx7, do you know how it compares to ...

Fast action 4 pc 8 wt blank < $100
So far, the best I've come up with is Cabela's FT blank. It sells for $95.
This is just speculative research for a possible future rod. I'm still just working on rod # 1.

I do believe it is. Whatchya got cookin? Me, nothing yet...I'm still waiting on some kind of response from hook and hackle on my order. I canceled it but I think they are going to try to send it anyway and ignore my emails and messages. Anyway I got a blank and stuff from Mud hole in the mean time....

Let's talk about butts!
You've seen the new Orvis Zero right?
They use some kind of buttlocking/ uplock system.
Is it the same realseat/butt locking system that REC offers through Calbela's minus the ornate seatcover and EVA foam on the fighting butt end?

Cheap blanks
Quick question, I just picked up a cheap Lamiglass 2pc blank. I noticed that the furrel (receiving end...female...what ever you call it) is not even. There is a slight irregularity in the outer circumference. Should I sand it down a bit so that when I wrap the furrel with thread it will align evenly...
