Re: Getting to be that time again
Yes he was. If you watch the video real close you can see that the shark bumps the bottom oh his yak after taking the fish. That was a big shark!

Re: Getting to be that time again
Kind of reminds me of this incident that has gone viral in the kayak fishing world: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puNhvXutVjQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Getting to be that time again
Yeah I already thought about this case scenario. And very scary but no disaster. I keep a pair of line clippers on my vest. I am curious about the color of his kayak. Out West where I am from surfers occasionally get mistaken for shore bound seals and sea lions. I suspect his inspection by the shark...

Re: Getting to be that time again
This! I have caught a few tarpon in my day and I am looking forward to doing so from my kayak. I have read so much the last couple of days I really don't know what to think or if I should go after them. It would be nice if someone would set up a what to do and what not to do check list from a kayak...

Re: Getting to be that time again
Rik, How about setting up one of the announcements that stays on top that has links and articles pertaining to Tarpon fishing. A tarpon fishing "read this". This! I have caught a few tarpon in my day and I am looking forward to doing so from my kayak. I have read so much the last couple o...

Re: "My Boat" - Wilderness Systems Tempest 170, Kevlar
I'm pretty much where he is at. I find the X-13 paddles far better than my prior Tarpon 160 but not as well as my Tempest 170. It's more than adequate. I don't feel like I'm paddling around a tank.

T9 Boeshield or dielectric grease will work.

Re: "My Boat" - Wilderness Systems Tempest 170, Kevlar
Got to fish the Malibu X-13 last night. I'm very pleased with it. I like paddling it a lot better than I liked paddling my Tarpon 160 and it fishes a whole lot better than than my Tempest 170 for the obvious reasons. I'll give it it's own review here shortly.

Re: "My Boat" - Wilderness Systems Tempest 170, Kevlar
Well I happened to stumble into a deal on a Malibu x-13 so it looks like that is going to be my fishing kayak. I wasn't looking, just boom there it was in front of my face on clearance at a price I couldn't pass up.

Re: Kayak Skeg
I have a skeg on my SINK, it helps but does not solve the problem. I still have to paddle on one side but it's not as much effort to keep a straight track. For the short time I owned a Tarpon 160 I found the rudder to be more effective in a cross wind / cross current situation.

Re: "My Boat" - Wilderness Systems Tempest 170, Kevlar
I think you hit the nail on the head to my resistance of another plastic boat. The weight. That thing was a mother to load onto the top of my truck. After the fifth time I said this thing needs to go. Also after an outing we had the loaded on the truck and went to do some shopping or whatever and wh...
