Re: Considering Switching to a Kayak

I recently purchased a solo canoe, 11' 9",43 lbs. My other 16' weighs 86 lbs and is no fun with loading. Your right, my solo blows me around in the wind and does drip in on you when using a double blade. I use outriggers w/trolling motor and I would think twice about paddling or owning it if th...

Re: Weedon Island

Weedon as with many places can take a while to learn and most will be tight lipped on their spots. Alot depends on the tide, wind, water temp, time of year, etc. I rarely go there at low tide as I've other places that commonly produce. I like your described area early if I'm the 1st one there in the...

Re: Convince me to use artificials

Regardless what you throw you have to have confidence it will work. If your casting for 15 minutes with no strikes, the urge to put the old reliable live bait into use is overwhelming, because you plain just want to catch fish. The problem is the cast at minute 16 would have produced. Don't give up ...

Re: Waterproof Camera Recommendations?

I bought my wife a Canon D20 several months ago. She keeps it tethered to her yak and keeps in the floor or wherever. It's a real tough camera. I think it's rated for a depth of 33'.

Re: Trolling Motors

The car battery size, I've used two instead of a large one as they come in handy to adjust weight distribution. I've got a 300lb and a 160lb partner. I keep both batteries underneath me with the big fellow on board or I have one stuffed in the bow, one in the center if I'm by myself. I routinely hav...

Trolling Motors

Often the conversation of trolling motors come up and I thought I would share my experience with size and lbs of thrust, something I found little reference to and had to learn on my own. I have 2 SOT's and 2 canoes, a OT 16'er and a solo 11'-9" OT Discovery. I prefer the canoes for fishing, use...

Re: What a day for trout!!

Tarpon 14089 may be a newbie but he is fishing my spots and will be cut off from my daughter if he speaks. Matter of fact, I may cut something else off.

Flounder Outbreak

I've been fishing in Fl since 1983 since leaving the pristine trout waters of northern Utah. I have never caught the numbers I'm seeing now with flounder. December whatever, the day after the xmas coldfront, 5 hours on the water, no a creature was stirring not even a mouse, absolutely not a mullet s...

Re: Seminole Coyote

after warning the neighbors of my sighting, one informed me they had discovered a (minus the meat) black cat in her yard a week previously. we've had a decent supply of rabbits around and several cats neighbors let roam. I'm guessing I'll have to watch my dogs until things settle down and the food s...

Re: Seminole Coyote

I live on dead end streeet off 102nd, not far from park. Have not seen any in awhile, figured park management had thinned them out, quietly.

Seminole Coyote

I live a mile from Seminole high school, step out front door at 8pm, coyote munching on something in front yard and he hauls butt when I come out, neighbor has/had 2 hen chickens, now down to one. I've seen them at 4am when heading out fishing, been 2 years, but never this early. They sure have adap...

Bay Pines area

I had an unusual day Saturday, catching 9 different species of fish. Nothing of large poportions, except a good size flounder and sheepie. The snook/red/trout slam was only about 50", but that many species in the backwaters of Bay Pines made it a fun day.

Found Sunglasses

I found a very expensive, high end, pair of sunglasses at a well known destination Saturday evening. I can't enjoy the find until I exhaust attempts to locate an owner. Anyone squinting in the sun today?

Re: Best fishing canoe?

You want a side motor mount. I constantly move the shaft up and down and tilt when in shallow water. It would drive me nuts with it hanging straight behind me. The square ender typically has a broader beam and would be more stable though. Since your using a motor and ease of paddling is not an issue...
