Re: Native Ultimate 14.5 Deep Water Reentry - A Successful T

Loved my native ultimate 14-5
Love my native magic 14-5 more. It floats when swamped. I don't.

Re: New kayak launch

I have not been to the kayak park a the end of Laurel rd. this year. I have been told that there is some road construction that blocks access. The launch did consist of only a floating dock & a ramp from shore to it. There too some gravel, sand and a sloped cut would do the job better. Those who...

Re: Talk me out of it

Honda RIDGELINE is worth checkng.
We have carried 15' kayaks in bed with a bed extender.
Plenty of room inside for passengers. Fold up rear seats offer great volume.
Rear trunk in bed very handy. Can be a cooler too.
20+ mpg @ 80mph
Three trim levels
Take one for a test ride while at the Honda dealer.

Re: HURRICANE Paula has formed

FYI
A few years ago just prior to Charlie, a group of aliens bought some condos on LBK Sarasota.
They have guided hurricanes away since.
Can you offer any better reason as to why we have been spared a direct hit?

Re: Need input - canoe/kayak launch

This is a great subject & one we need to address. Here in Sarasota we have several county/municipal launches. South Lido Key,a natural slope into shallow water, but a portage some distance from the parking lot. Casperson beach, a series of railroad ties set in parrallel decending to the water. N...

Re: Paynes Prairie Birds (11)

When the wind blows & the temp drops kayaking is put on hold. I spend my time with art. With your permission I would like to sketch some of these birds. The action shots are rare & would be a challenge to my skills.I work in pastel or graphite.

Re: Double Branch Launch Options

The floating dock launch creates some problems to those used to a shallow beach launch. Sarasota county is starting to use them at their new launch sites too. Just checked out the new Venice Myakka River Park, it has the railing & floatig dock too. This is on a riverbank having steep entrys throu...

ultimate rudder

The link does not show a rudder for the Ultimate. Others in the line , yes.
I would like to hear opinions on the Magic. A rudder kit exists for it.
I have a 14-5 Ultimate & 2nd Ricks comments.

Scotty on Trident 13 &15

I assume your Trident has the "rod-pod"as mine does.
I mounted a Scotty Flush mount thru the pod cover at the forward end.
With a mount extender your rod is near enough & high enough to clear the cover.
I guess the standard Scotty mount could work too with the extender.

OK, a second look confirms that a similar design would work on my Ultimate 14-5.
What is your final distance betweem oar locks?
What if any oar locks are you using? Looks like just holes in the 1x2s.
Is the 6' length oar still OK after you spread the pivots.
I might be interested in your old oars.

Very nice! Looks like a natural conversion for a Native Ultimate for rowing. Where did you get the oars? Do you row by pulling or pushing the oars?

Compare the WS T-160 with a rudder to the Hobie "Adventure".
They are similar in hull design & size. If you plug the pedal port you minimize drag & they paddle nearly the same.
The Adventure is faster when pedaled however.
Worth the extra $$ ??
