My goal is that others won't have to suffer through the same learning curve I did. http://www.amazon.com/Fly-Bay-beginners-guide-fishi...

The haul hand is the key to line speed. Both these vids address this. You're actually a little more aggressive with the line hand than the ...

It's a good time. I suggest getting there early. It's usually packed.

Re: Good low tide
Haven't fished much lately because of my job at the TB Times. Gave my notice a while ago. Going into freelance writing. Got a couple stories coming up in the next Drake, Dave R's favorite mag. Last day at the Times will be in late March, early April. Will resume the sight fishing quest then. I came ...

Been windy as hell in Tampa/St. Pete. The forecast is for more this week. It was supposed to lay down a bit Tuesday, but did not.

Outstanding. You did well to get out when you did. Looks like we'll have good tides this weekend, but the wind will be blowin' pretty hard for the long rod.

Re: Weedon Island
One thing I've learned about Weedon and anywhere else around here: The easier an area is to get to, the more pressure it receives. More pressure generally equals lousy fishing. Not that you can't or won't do well close to the ramp . ...

Re: Sarasota Bay fly fishing
Steve: I agree completely.
The last month or so I've been out I've caught fish --- no reds, though --- mainly because I've blindcasted some; before, I resorted to sight casting only. Well, guess what: the fly wasn't in the water a whole hell of a lot.
