I went a couple times in the spring/summer. Water is pretty skinny and clear. The scenery's nice.
The downside: Lot's of jet skiers and non-fishing kayakers, tourist types. Get there early and you'll be fine. If not, be prepared to deal with a lot of activity.

BF: Thanks for all the support.
Thing is, I'm only halfway done. I know what it takes to visually find fish. Now, I've got to replicate the former and execute a good presentation.

This man has seen the light. He has been to the mountain top! BF: I was thinking today that when you sight fish with the long rod, you have to be prepared to endure most of a trip without casting and without rushing from spot to spot. It's human nature to be proactive --- to paddle faster, get to m...

A bit of news on the sight fishing quest. Haven't fished solo much since late June because of work and the weather. Finally made the effort to get out Tues. morning, despite the less-than-ideal tide. Just needed to get out. Well, I forgot my fly rod, the new TF I just got. Usually I keep my fly rods...

Stopped by Tampa Bay on the Fly Sunday for my usual weekend chat with owner Enver Hysni, who told me the shop will be closed on Sunday through the rest of August. TBOF is a great shop, one of the few fly-only shops left in the state. I live right down the street from TBOF and consider myself fortuna...

BF: Haven't been out in the kayak since prior to TS Debby. Been slammed at work with the new job. The only thing I've done recently is take a trip out to Honeymoon last Tuesday for beach snook when the water was too milky. I'm going to try to get out to Weedon Monday or Tuesday morning. JoeS was nic...

Try the Caladisi side of Hurricane Pass on the falling tide.
Good point. I thought about that. I need to either take the Ferry or bring my kayak.

Went out Tuesday morning with high expectations. Low wind and just a few clouds. However, the water's still milky courtesy of TS Debby. Still, it was good to get out, walk the beach and make a few casts. Not much of a report, but I figure I could save someone a trip while the water clears up. On a p...

First picture posted. Finally got with the 21st century. All it took was a tree crashing down in our front yard a few minutes. One of the few times I'm glad to be a renter as opposed to a homeowner.

As far as learning one spot, Weedon Island is fast becoming one of my favorites. The launch is lousy, but everything else is pretty good. A little crowded, but I'll be fishing during the week with my new schedule.

Congrats on the gig. Take care of the family. The silly redfish will always be there. Thx Dave. I'm fortunate to still have a job, given the state of the newspaper business. I'll be working nights as an editor (in sports), so I'll have time to sometimes get out during the day. Twenty years ago, I c...

High winds and consistent rain have delayed my sight fishing quest. Only got out once this week --- and it was blowing 15 mph. Also found full-time work this week, a relief after relocating, so that development may deter things a bit. We'll see.
