Re: Wind wind wind

It's been a couple rough weeks for fishing on the Southshore area - with all this rain who knows what'll happen. They gotta eat at some point, but I haven't even bothered going out. Couple weeks ago the flats were a water temp of +90 and full of monkey snot; now storms and winds have messed things u...

Re: A first visit to Tampa Bay

Very few kayakers venture to the Skyway. I've seen one guy somewhat consistently, but every time I think he's nuts. He doesn't seem to wear a PFD, no flag; so he's pretty comfortable with the whole scene. He has a peddle boat - so at least he's using the stronger muscles. The tide there can be daunt...

Re: AMI 05/2015

Sure...for a couple cold ones anything can be done. Was with "Wonderboy" yesterday - may have to change that nickname, but I digress. He is now interning over at ULA - they launched a rocket at Cape Canaveral yesterday. What a cool gig he has going. His fingerprints went into space. There ...

Near shore kayaking...

So as most people here know over the last few years I poon/grouper fish from yea ol' stink pot. Lately I've been seeing more kayakers hanging near shore or just off shore - call it from the swim buoys to 1/4-1/2 mile off the beaches. Yes I actually have seen a couple in the pass at Beans point in +1...

Well...not exactly a paddle fishing story...Apologies for the large format pics. http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n554/jbdba01/20150519-ami/600_0019_zps3daa66ja.jpg Executive Details: 1 bite, 1 poon, but it was a good one. Details: With the son (aka. Wonderboy) heading off to Cape Canaveral for h...

Re: AMI 05/2015

Very nice. Especially like the next to last picture. Evan nailed most of the shots. That older T2i is a very good prosumer camera; a couple more frames per sec would be nice - it gets about 4. Looks like we didn't have it on Tv mode - probably needed to bump up the speed to 1/500; regardless he did...

AMI 05/2015

Beautiful weather and tight lines before Wonderboy heads over to Cape Canaveral for his summer internship at ULA. I don't think it gets much better than that...probably needed to resize them, but you get the idea. http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n554/jbdba01/20150519-ami/600_0016_zps2wpmpb2k.jpg...

Re: GPS Fishfinder

I have both a stink pot and a kayak and I probably wouldn't put a GPS/fishfinder on the kayak. It's just on more thing to go wrong and the water I normally fish is < 6'. Poon in a kayak to me is more visual than anything. That said on my power boat I have this one . I like it with the exception that...

Re: Anyone know a "go away wind" dance?

It's very similar to a Poon Dance. First of all you have to use it sparingly. Too much dancing is like to much tequila - too much and the wind/poon gods will throw up all over you. The first key is to take your visor and invert and wear to backwards. aka - the rally cap. The next thing is you take b...

Re: Water has finally warmed up

The full moon has passed, the weather is great, now if these 15+ East winds would blow themselves out Was blowing about 20 on the South side of TPA last weekend; rather than paddle I got out and waded. With winds from the N/NE water was blown out of the bay. Managed to wade out to 6' markers in kne...

A valentines day stinkpot report, but it was mainly used for transportation...moderators moderate as you see fit. http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n554/jbdba01/20150214/eb70cf54-ec8f-464a-81c1-1d1110b4a968_zps90a70f27.jpg Executive Summary Winds 10-12, temps 34-55; water temp 70 or 53; 7 reds and...

Re: McGill Flats Blue Spinning Rod / Sabalos 3000

10-4. I'm not a big fan of parting with my $ and these rigs get the job done. I fish them almost every week for many years. I have a couple guide friends who love the stradic 3000's and the reels are VERY good - I broke down and bought one, but at $170 you can get 2-3 Sabalos. Stradics are VERY good...

Re: Could this render the GoPro obsolete?

Looks like I may have to buy some more 3oz weights. Triangle ones are more aerodynamic.
