Re: Decisions decisions. Input please.
Here's a link to a site that lets you search all Craigslist postings in the state of Florida with the push of a button: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=36ff052afd33eac5f9d0026956135c3a I did a test search for "Wilderness Kayak" and found several listings under $500 on the first ...

Re: Cayo Costa & Boca Grande
The campground is located about a mile from the docks, and the shuttle bus only runs from 9am to 5pm, so bring bikes or at least comfortable shoes, since you'll be making the trip at least twice per day. May also want to bring locks for your outboard and push pole since they'll be unattended all nig...

Re: Flyfishing Tarpon Advice
I usually chase beach Tarpon from a boat in the passes because I like to sightcast to them as they cross the shallow sandbars, but I think I can speak to a couple of your questions about gear. Floating line works just fine. I actually prefer it since it's easier to cast, and since it's much easier t...

Re: What's In Your Wallet?
There are well over 100 flies in the box I always lug around, but I only end up using about 10% of them, and that number gets smaller every year. I tend to use the same flies for Reds/Trout and for Snook/Tarpon. And for what it's worth, I only use two hooks for every single fly I tie these days: the...

If everyone treated our Parks this way, there'd be no need for Betty, but unfortunately that just isn't the case.Rik wrote: I promise I'll leave no trace, will most likely bring home trace from other folks and will have words with folks who I see leaving a trace.

Re: Govt. Shutdown is going to cancel my trip to Flamingo. H
You may want to gonsider the other side of the glades if you can cancel your hotel reservation. The 10K Islands have more public access points that do not require the park system than does the east side of the park. You can launch from a few places in Chokoloskee and Everglades City as well as Port...

14 foot kayaks seem like the best of both worlds. Stable and track well, but still lightweight and maneuverable.

Re: VHF Handhelds
I'm buying it for up here Evan, it was just the Glades trip, that made me realize how handy they are, we were fishing in sight of each other, but to far to shout and no cell signal, it would have been nice to call the guys over when i found fish and vice versa But...you've got cell service up there...

Re: VHF Handhelds
After a recent trip to the glades where on the wtaer communication would have been very handy I've decided to get a new one. Don't waste your money, those little handheld radios don't work for shit in the Glades. So many mangroves that disrupt the signal that you can't even talk to the boat that's ...

Re: Anyone using Jim Teeny flyline made for kayak fishing?
Much depends on the particular flyrod the line is paired with. I bought an 8wt Airflo Striper line for winter time that I initially hated...until I tried it on my old Scott STS 8wt...the combination was almost magical. Just saying that evaluating the line alone isn't enough. But like Chris says, lan...

Re: One Fly Tournament July 12th
So, let me get this straight: a Largemouth Bass is worth 3 TIMES AS MANY POINTS as a Permit? Seems legit.
You could give fly anglers an entire week to try to catch all the species under the "By-Catch" category and it still probably wouldn't happen.

@ 1:52..."Do you catch the flies yourself?" LMFAO. Every fly angler has been asked that question at some point.

Sounds like the main issue is just a conflict of priorities. Although I bet your golf swing is getting really good! Just imagine if you spent 6 days a week flycasting...JoeS wrote:On another note I have been playing golf 6 days a week......

Re: Flourocarbon vs. Monofilament fly leaders
Everyone does it differently, but I construct my own leaders since they're both cheaper and more versatile. Usually use Seaguar blue label Fluoro for every piece, since it's by far the strongest and most abrasion-resistant leader I've found. I apply some chapstick to each end before tying them toget...

Re: Weather is turning
Speaking of weather, the Snook were going absolutely crazy on the dock lights last night. We caught 7-8 on gurglers from the canoe until we actually started to feel sorry for them. Never seen them quite so active...busting every few seconds on every light we visited. It's amazing how they know this ...
