Re: Sick Snook Photos

I grew up on a barrier island in SE Florida when snook fishing was awesome, there were no limits, and people didn't eat them. That was then and this is now. I cannot fault people who did this way back when we didn't know better and therefore there were no regulations. Thank god and some people with ...

Re: Oil drilling in the Everglades

Thanks for posting this, Rik. We are just now starting to turn around many years of damage done in the Everglades. There really MUST be sensitive areas that are off limits to drilling.

Re: A "good to know" tidbit

I've tried that before and you have to be careful to drop the battery close to the flat surface or it's going to fall over no matter what.

Re: Gill Nets are Back??

Nice article in the local Anna Maria Island paper HERE. "she thinks that the judge could be distantly related to the Cortez Fulford clan, although no relationship has been established."

Re: Gill Nets are Back??

It can be fixed by a rule change. It is a slow process but not nearly as slow nor as expensive as a constitutional amendment. And surfman was quite incorrect to label the judge's decision as "liberal." Quite the contrary.

It's been over a month since I posted that. I was trying to see if I knew who this guy was since no one would name him. Nothing more than that.

Re: VHF Handhelds

Because I often fish alone in my kayak or Hewes, I bought a SH HX851. It is not tiny, but it is submersible and floats. Plus, it has a GPS thing with a distress button. My previous SH was small, submersible and I loved that thing. It took a lot of abuse for 5 years but even with a new battery it doe...

Re: Snook Opening

I cannot tell you how strongly I disagree. The population is not back in the way it needs to be to support it. It's just science. I personally cannot fault people who are keeping fish in order to survive, however. I'm betting the Snook fishery will be OK ... not too sure about the fishermen here. :?...

I am a Hobie Mirage Drive fan from way back. You can troll, don't need to anchor very often, and can eat a sandwich/drink a beer while fishing and still pedaling. It is also very sail compatible.

Re: Hey snook! Go hide!

I guess that is sort of good news. It's just that I have seen newbies catching snook on the Anna Maria Piers with live bait at night. Not really Terry. The folks who would take advantage of a no license day are either not fishermen and they would only catch a limit size fish by extreme luck or they ...

Fort De Soto Park is a great place to kayak fish. (Except for those pesky morning storms!)

I hate that they opened the season and doing so on the license-free day is makes it a Double Dumbazz move.
