Re: sliding float rig

I believe that is a slip cork rig which has been the standard rig for trout here forever. It works very well.

Re: Weather

Be glad to swap with you. We have been in the high 90's with effective temps over 100 for a month or so now. The sea water temp is like a hot bath. The flip side is that we had the best spring in years with ample rain and beautiful flowers and much fruit. The fishing should be awesome once it cools ...

Re: Not impressed

That would be a nice gesture which many would like to see. It would be impossible to honor them all, but JayB, John, Ric and others have been very influential to the sport. It was not that long ago when the sight of a kayak used for fishing was very rare. This site was a pioneer which broke new grou...

Re: Not impressed

John, I remember fondly how you and JayB welcomed us when we first got into kayak fishing. Someone coming in to hopefully restore the site to what it was originally would have no idea of the respect we all have for both of you. Brett, perhaps we could have a place of honor for those who did so much ...

Re: What the Hell Is Going On Here or Actually Not Going On

When we first got involved in kayak fishing many years ago, it was the first site I opened when starting the computer. There was much information available to help people get into the game but not so much anymore. People became close mouthed to prevent anyone from learning the areas they enjoyed fis...

Re: We lost another great one on Monday

Just saw these posts, and you could knock me over with a feather. She was way too young to leave, and she will certainly leave a void behind her.

Prayers for her family and close friends. Hope you folks comfort the family at the Celebration.

Re: Sick Snook Photos

Nearly all or possibly all the fish in those photos are edible, and they were used as food after the pictures were taken. No one thought a thing about selling their catch in the past. I would hate to see catches such as those kept today, but those pictures were taken many years ago. Today we have si...

Tried the dead battery test on two sets of batteries, and it did not work as advertised.

Re: Sick Snook Photos

I don't think people appreciate just how fast the population has grown. Back in the mid eighties, dealing with the power company in St. Pete, they told me that the population had doubled in the preceding 10 or so years. Goodness knows how large it grew since that time. I visited St. Pete in 1959, an...

Re: Sick Snook Photos

You really cannot compare yesterday to today, as things were much different in the past. Thankfully we have rules which protect species today. Back in the late 40's, people hooked burlap sacks to oar locks and put their fish in the bags. I have seen small boats return to the dock with several full b...

Re: Hypothermia and Winter Time Fishing.

I had my own experience with that condition, and can assure you you do not want to test it out. I got lucky but it was not because of my thinking normally at the time. I hit the stage that my thinking was ridiculous in hindsight. It was the next day before I realized why my wife was so upset when I ...

Re: Reel grease and oils...

Phil, that sounds like a must purchase to me. The 111 has a pretty high viscosity and is only really useful on metal.

Re: Reel grease and oils...

Something which may be interesting information. I was in the mechanical seal business, and the engineers ran tests to compare greases. When they used silicon grease, they found they could wipe down the part after greasing, and it still left a slick surface. It was nearly impossible to get the stuff ...

Re: Reel grease and oils...

What type of reels are we talking about?

Grease in spinning rod bearings is fine, but it slows down casting reel bearings. I have never seen a reel bearing oil which would stay on for very long, so those bearings require frequent oiling.
