Seems like the name of the game lately is slow. I fished from 4:30 to 6 this evening (after the honey doos were honey done). I was in green water, open bay with sand bottom to 6' up against a concrete bulk head. This was the East side of the bay so the seawalls heat up in the afternoon. I thought I ...

Fly report

Went out for an evening paddle in little sarasota bay. It was slow catching. I did manage part of a trash can slam on fly (lady fish, lizzard fish and a catfish that got off  . All was going down hill when a 24" snook sucked down the offering. Sorry no pics. All were caught on a EP style p...

I cue in on mud bottoms near deep water as the weather gets colder. Deep channels near flats, sheltered areas that get sun with mud bottoms, they hold more heat in winter. Sand does not gain much heat and looses it just as fast. Heat is relative, remember these critters are the same temp as the wate...

nice fly, I experimented with a Bob Popovics spook immitation called a silicon mullet. It walked the dog ok, but held alot of water so hauling it out was a bit tough until it flung the water out of the head. It was messy to make but it caught fish and you could rig it weed less. Another type is real...

South Texas on borrowed time and a borrowed ride

So I go back to visit the in-laws and attend a wedding. True to form on all of my travels I pack a fly rod, fist full of flies and a stogie (just in case). My brother in-law just acquired his first SOT and wanted to go out fishing at my old spots on the morning of the wedding, which was at 4:30 pm 1...

You might try a bone fish slider (1.5") in white and tan or a small popper (without the pop) I use a whats called a V.I.P popper. I used to catch alot of reds that way when I was in Texas. Cast in the grass on the edge of the hole (quietly) and slide it into the hole and let it sit for a 10 cou...

Crease Fly Snook

I went out for a few hours after work with 2 beers, 1 stogie and a fist full of fresh tied crease flies. The sun was going down the tide was sweeping baby mubletses from the flat to the channel and it was game on (Trout and snook.) Love them crease flies. http://forumpictureprocessor.com/pictureproc...

The bahamas are great for bonefish. The hard part is getting to a flat. There are lots of fringe flats on the islands that are accessable by foot. Do your homework (google earth and chat people up at the local bar). Bahamians are great people and are a wealth of local info. I would suggest getting a...

yep, BFW is correct. The more fiber you use the higher it will float. My first attempts at EP's all floated. Mostely because the water flicks out with the back cast and the air is hard to get out of the fibers. Dense=float, thin=intermediate, thin with lead (wire) on hook shank=belly dragger. That f...

SRQ Evening Bite sill good

Went out on sunday around 6 pm to fish the evening incoming tide. It was slow until right at sunset. The tide was squeezing between two islands, flowing over a 1' deep flat and washing finger mullet into a 4' deep hole. We approached from down tide and I worked a red and white mirro mullet from shal...
