Re: Customer Service "TEST"
UPDATE... Just got off the phone with a representative from Costa and before I even had a chance to ask any questions they said that they had made an error and that I would not be charged $99.00 for "damaged lens". They told me that the new replacement frames have been changed slightly an...

Re: Customer Service "TEST"
My Costas fell from my neck a couple of months ago and broke in half when they hit the ground. I went through the return process and they sent me a brand new pair for $11.95 warranty cost. The frame was obviously broken, but the repair bill also noted that the lenses were faded and therefore replace...

Re: college + kayaking = scholarship??
I agree with what a few others have said. If he can get into MIT... go for it. Otherwise, I feel like as long as he is at a major university it really doesn't matter which one it is. I went to UF and lived with 3 engineers (all different types). When I got there I was pursuing a mechanical engineeri...

Excellent report. I always love reading your write-ups.
I hate the wind too, but it sounds like you made the best of it.

Re: recipe for white bean chili
Here is the one that we make... so good. The last step is the key to making it good and creamy. Creamy White Chili Ingredients: 1 lb chicken breast - cubed 1 T butter 1 medium onion, chopped 1 ½ tsp garlic powder 2 cans beans, great northern or cannelloni (15.5 oz each), rinsed & drained 1 can c...

Re: Dolphin Fish Thief
I went out on Hubbard's 39 hour trip a couple of months ago and we had a school of dolphin follow us all morning. It was almost impossible to reel a fish up past them. If you gave some slack when they grabbed your fish they would usually let go. If you just kept reeling, they would just pull the fis...

Excellent report as usual. I am jealous of your frequent trips, but enjoy living vicariously through your posts. I am really looking forward to taking my son fishing one day. He is almost 12 weeks old now... how long do I have to wait?

Re: We have lost an old friend
I only met Mark a couple of times over the past several years, but I will never forget the first time that I ran into him at Picnic Island about 5 years ago when I was just getting into kayaking. I recognized him from this site and will never forget all of the pointers and tips he gave me that morni...

Re: Paddle upgrade benefits??
Carbon fiber is a must. I suppose if you have unlimited funding, this might be true. I use the T-1 by Pacific Designs and do just fine with it. It does have an aluminum shaft but has much lighter blades which reduces the amount of weight that you are actually swinging when you paddle. It weighs 29o...

Is that cemented into the ground or are those just blocks ?
It is just sitting on some pavers I had.

Re: Kayak Storage Help
Here are a couple pics of the rack that I put together on Saturday... You will need (8) 2"x4"x8' boards and appropriate screws (I used 3" outdoor wood screws). Cost for the wood was about $25. The four runners on the sides are 8' long, the vertical corner pieces are 4' long and the cr...

Re: Kayak Storage Help
I just built a rack for my two kayaks on Saturday out of pressure treated 2x4s. It cost less than $30 to make and was very easy, I will post a pic of it if I can remember to take one tomorrow after work.

I saw these at Sam's Club yesterday. I think they were $120.Manning wrote:Inexpensive water proof camera replacement would be Kodak Playsport. Takes stills and shoots HD video. On the down side, there is no flash and no self timer. Should be able to find one for around $129 or less.

Re: Spring Shrimp Run
I was camping on the back side of Shell Key last weekend and there were lots of really good sized shrimp on the shallow flats Friday night. I wish I had brought my net because they sure would have been good on a skewer over the fire. They seemed to be out about 30 minutes after it got dark and then ...
