Kingfish

We launched from the beach (Manatee County) this morning in pursuit of a possible Kingfish. The water was 74 degrees, water was relatively clear, and light surf. We paddled out to the crab traps, and attempted to sabiki some bait. We had almost no luck with the sabiki, and after many attempts, I was...

South Skyway Rest Area?

I've been on the bench for the last few years, and I was wondering if I can still launch from the south skyway rest area? I was wanting to fish the area east of there. I seem to recall some problems up there with the security guards. Anyone got any insight?

Thanks

Re: Foot Brace replacement on a Tarpon 140

I installed the Attwood brace today, was easy enough. The holes on this system were about 1/4" off from the original equipment, and I did have to drill. It appears to be the same quality as the original equipment, and for under $20, It seems to be a good deal.

Re: Foot Brace replacement on a Tarpon 140

I found several bracing systems on the market. Harmony and Attwood both had what appeared to be identical 15" systems that were similar to what was on the Tarpon. Cost with shipping was $20. I'll post later on the fit and function.

Foot Brace replacement on a Tarpon 140

I'm wanting to replace the foot braces on a Tarpon 140. Anyone have any suggestions on an after market brand?

Thanks

Re: Need input - canoe/kayak launch

Personally, I prefer the more rugged launches. Keeps the yahoos away. Probably not what you want to hear... No, that is what I want to hear. Part of the issue is economics. The less we require, the less it costs to build them and the more launches we may get. (spreading out the yahoos.....) I agree...

Re: Do you know this rig?

The rig your showing is used for Pompano fishing, and is most often used for surf or pier fishing. I've also seen it used for Flounder and Black Drum. It is affectionately refered to as "Yankee Tackle". People come down here for two weeks and want to do some fishing from the beach, or a pi...

If you go, make sure you hang out for the BBQ. It's a great opportunity to talk to some local guides after they have had a few beers ;)

Do they still sell party balls? Im sure you could put a party ball in your tankwell and fill the box up with ice, run a hose over your shoulder and clip it to your collar like one of those camelbak deals. That is fantastic! Kayak people really do go above and beyond when it comes to creativity. If ...

I use the Sealine SLX 30 on a Shimano Trevalla 30-80 6'6" rod, with 40lb braid. I use it for jigging, trolling, and whatever. The 30 is easy to cast, and is the most versatile conventional type reel I own. There are alot of reels out there that I like better (Saltist), but I can't afford them. ...

Native Rentals has them available for free test paddling every saturday and sunday on the Palma Sola causeway.

They are fun, but kind of pricey.

There are several islands on the south shore of Tampa bay, around the entrance to Magill Bay and westward toward Rattlesnake. They are in close proximaty to good fishing, but a ways from a good launch site. You have good access to this spot from the south skyway rest area, but I don't know it you ca...
