When you walk the trail you can see the closed area just by the observation tower. Not a very long paddle. There are several mangrove tunnels that cut over to Perico Bayou from the preserve (they are on the south side of the eagle nest). It makes for an interesting paddle. It's a good place to go i...

I would use a 5-7 ot hook. The 30# mono leader will hold up for most of the fight, sometimes you get lucky. You really don't want to handle them in your kayak anyway. If you want to increase your odds of landing one, go get some single strand wire leader 30-50# and a haywire twister(rig your own) Th...

2009 Paddle-In

My buddy Mike & I returned yesterday from a long weekend in Everglades City. We got there early friday and spent the day fishing around Rabbit Pass. We worked our way toward the outside early, and drifted in, working the cuts and coves we came upon. All in all the fishing just wasn't very good. ...

I'm with you on the issue of the mullet fisherman(don't get me wrong). You do need to be careful though. Many of these "mullet guys" are well organized, and do employ look-outs. The same people that are used to unload catches(or ditch nets) @ remote locations can be dispatched to your laun...

I have reservations @ the "Captains Table" for friday & saturday nights. I was really wanting to stay @ the "Rod & Gun Club" (could launch from there sat-morn), but it was too rich for me.

Looking forward to meeting you. Hoping for some decent weather.

Heywood had the right answer! Your problem is your line is twisted. If you troll 100yds out behind you with nothing but line, that should fix it. You can also do it on land by sending someone down the street with your line end. Have them hold tension, and release. Repeat 7-8 times (not as good as tr...

Gamble Creek

My buddy Mike and I set out to explore a new area today in Manatee Cty. We headed east to Parrish and launched on Gamble Creek. We were wanting to explore some of the headwaters of the Manatee River. I was a bit surprised @ how big Gamble Creek was. I was half expecting to have to battle through man...

When I pay my bills off, I will have one of those nice cameras. Thanks alot for the help guys. If your looking for a digital camera for your kayak, you really don't need a 10 MP quality camera. I shoot my pics @ 5MP and I end up having to reduce them when I post on a forum. You can probably find so...

The only time I ever dumped my kayak in deep water, I was surprised how fast I got back in. Then I realized I left my paddle and tackle in the water (dooooh!)
