Re: Flamingo 06-13.14-2013

fishing in Coot Bay is very good.

I typically throw shad tail jigs or some sort of jerk bait.

I have seen top water and all sorts of crank baits also be very effective.

If you have the patience to throw a fly rod from your kayak, you will also be in business.

Re: Flamingo 06-13.14-2013

I guess then you will have to be at the Buttonwood launch a bit earlier so you are out in the Bay a bit earlier. Being honest, she will not enjoy the trip through the tunnel into Coot Bay. But it saves a 4 mile paddle, and if you have your hurry up shoes on, you can be in Coot Bay within 15 minutes ...

Re: Flamingo 06-13.14-2013

Like most of Flamingo - it's an early bite. Ditch the GF, launch from Coot Pond and work the edges of Coot Bay early.

I am surprised you didn't catch anything in Buttonwood Canal. when the boats are ripping through there, the fishing can be quite good! Especially for smaller snook and tarpon.

Re: Flamingo 06-13.14-2013

If the grass is high in the center of the lake, stick to fishing the dead fall around the perimeter. This is where you will find the snook and tarpon. West Lake hasn't been itself since Wilma and Katrina. I think those storms may have altered the way the water moves through The Lungs and Long Lake i...

Re: Bug net

Noseeums are flies not mosquitoes deet repels mossies ok but not flies. Find a bug spray that contains picaridin and you will be in business. Sawyer makes an effective product for noseeums and mosquitoes. On off product look for ingredient rs232 fly repellent. Good tip. Thanks! If you plan on using...

Re: Flamingo

If you are going to Coot Bay via Coot Pond, bring a hand saw. They occassionally come in handy. Lots of shore line for you to fish in Coot Bay. If you are feeling really strong, you can paddle into Mud Lake, but I would not reccomend that for beginners. You could also hit West Lake, but no clue what...

Re: New fishing rod/reel help.

Yea I am looking at a 2000 or 2500 series reel, just not sure what brand. They all have good/bad reviews. I mostly fish out of my canoe and can stand very easily so I typically get good distance. Did some testing with my 7' med action Star rod and I was putting a top water lure 150'+ out but that w...

Re: New fishing rod/reel help.

I have a 7' St. Croix that will chuck a swim/jerk bait a country mile. I don't remember what it costs, I have had it for 5+ years. It is a fast action, light/medium and I think it is a tidewater (or something like that). I use it out front at Flamingo, but never bring it back country because 7' rods...

Didn't say it was cheap. Just think it is cool! Admit it - you want one.
