Throw the Strike King 3x soft-plastics. They don't stink, but trust me, they work (and pinfish will not tear them up). Get a tube of super glue to glue the bait to the jighead/weighted-hook, etc.

Re: Return to the Big Bend.
Good times . Too bad we couldn't get the poons to eat. I will say that Dave tried like heck to get a red on fly. They just weren't as cooperative as usual. I had fish nipping at the fly repeatedly on Saturday without taking (but I also caught a few ;)). And on a final couple notes...that low c...

Re: The Tale of the "Big Uglies"
It was a heck of a good time fellas. Can't wait to do it again soon . Decent fishing, great food, lots of laughs...doesn't get much better. Yall even had the pleasure of encountering some of the local wildlife (the other "hawgs", two-legged neighbor variety ) . Also thanks t...

Re: State Park
If you're more interested in just paddling rather than fishing, the Blackwater loop is quite nice. Try to ride the tide out the Blackwater and then in the Royal Palm Hammock through Mud Bay. As UT said, definitely plan your crossing through Mud Bay to coincide with a higher tide. Mud Bay is aptly na...

I noticed the change as well. The regular satellite photos are also loading extremely slowly compared to normal (and I'm on a very fast connection).

Re: Cedar Key experts ?
Dave, May is very good (probably one of the best months). Most of the migratory fish will be on the scene by then (tarpon, cobia, tripletail, sharks, etc). You can stay at the Shell Mound campground for $10 a night with water and electricity for a fan. The bathrooms and showers are actually pretty d...

Re: Gator Time
I particularly like #5 . Nice composition. I've caught some good fish along that stretch. Before all the cold weather, you could wipe out the mayan's and oscars on fly around there.

Re: Paynes Prairie Birds (11)
These were shot on the La Chua Trail. It offers the easiest access to good birding territory. Cone Dike Trail is also good, particularly when the Prairie is wet, but that's a much longer walk.

Thanks fellas . Not sure about the fish species. Looks like some kind of catfish or sucker.

Re: Paynes Prairie Birds (11)
I almost always spot-meter. It's the only way to really ensure a correct exposure for the target. Even at that, white birds are very difficult, particularly in direct light. I usually take a meter reading on the bird and then bump the shutter speed higher a click. My camera (Nikon D80) is not known ...

Not a bad morning of shooting. All of these were shot with the 70-300VR. The sandhills were on the scene, but too far out for 300mm. 1. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v56/gators15/DSC_2324copy.jpg 2. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v56/gators15/DSC_2352copy.jpg 3. http://img.photobucket.com/alb...

Selling my 70-300 VR
I know this isn't the For Sale forum, but I'm planning to put my USA version 70-300VR up for sale in about a week or so on the major photography boards. I'm moving to a faster 300mm prime. This lens is in perfect condition (not even a small blemish). I've had it for a little more than a year (bought...
