Re: My first redfish on fly

Nice catch Spencer. Now you're the fish that is hooked. Get ready to spend $100's in fly typing 'stuff' and little bits of feathers and bucktail floating around the room. (Remember to turn off the ceiling fan while tying!) I made a trip to the crafts store today to pick up a couple of the 'essentia...

My first redfish on fly

Long time no talk my fellow p-fer's. I haven't posted much on here lately, with social media these days and me actually growing up I've been neglecting the forums. Some of you probably remember when I was a teenager with hair past my shoulders getting dropped off at fishing tournaments by my parents...

Re: Anyone fishing in this heat?

Hmmm, old guns staying in and young gun heading out. I'd like to think its because the old guys have learned the lesson from going out on days like this and being miserable. Of course, Spencer may just be trying to fool us into thinking he's a tough guy. Photographic proof is required! We ended up ...

Re: Ft. Desoto

Hope my response isn't too late. Lately, Ft Desoto has been very hit or miss, even when you are 'on the fish'. That being said if you find them, be patient, they will eat eventually. If you're using lures remember to keep your presentation S L O W. If you think you're working your bait slowly, try sl...

People always ask me if I could fish anywhere, where would I want to fish. My answer is always right here in Tampa Bay... 100 years ago.

Re: "Damn, we haven't seen a redfish all day?"

That looks like a "chunk net". A cast net with no brail lines or lead weights that seine netters use or people throwing around structure (no brails makes it easier to unsnag). The lead line has a lead core, you can see where the shots of lead begin and end by the lines on the lead line. De...

Re: Googans

I know who this guy is, and I've had similar experiences in the same area.

They were either fishing a tournament or pre fishing, talk to the tournament director, this typ of stuff is illegal in most tournaments.

Re: Which Gold Spoon ?

I'm with Todd and others on this one.

Johnson 1/4 oz in gold.

I have been using the 1/2 oz a little bit lately during higher tides, or for clients who are having difficulty casting and doing pretty well also.

Re: Kingfish Release Mortality

In my experience they don't do well out of the water for extended periods of time and are particularly fragile if they hit the deck of the boat.

Like Russ said giving them a good throw into the water head first seems to work best.

Re: McKay Bay

I've fished it once before and caught a few nice reds and snook, supposedly there are juvi tarpon in the area too, but I never saw them.

With the water clearing up and cooler temps it seems like it should hold some fish.

Mullet - It's funny you mention that, one of the guys I'll be mullet fishing with actually graduated from UF with a BA in finance. Worked for an insurance company for a few years and said it wasn't for him. I'm studying communications right now. Mike - You can begin harvesting the 15th but traps go ...
