That is so very cool! I know it's over-much-used, but you did get the best of that fish. Great jumps far enough away and to get it on film like that?
The quality of the Go-pro is amazing. Is that the latest generation camera?

Re: The exciting life of a tarpon fisherman
A stinkpot DOES NOT HELP!!! We drove the little stinkpot, well John drove the stinkpot, 57 miles round trip yesterday; Matlacha-across the harbor-out Gasparilla Pass-up the beach to Stump Pass-back down to Gasparilla Island. All for one pod of fish two miles north of BGP. We set up a drift with the ...

Re: tarpon springs? what bites in june?
That's too bad about Tarpon Tom's and that launch by the bridge. Wonder what happened to Capt. Lenny Crispino who owned the tackle shop? If memory serves there was some kind of a park further up river?

Re: tarpon springs? what bites in june?
Lake Tarpon is your freshwater destination in Tarpon Springs. The park launch is Anderson Park. http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/01_anderson.htm Good bass and bluegill fishing in the morning and late afternoon. When you launch at the park, turn right and fish the cattails and docks (I used to live...

Parking at Matlacha Park for individual vehicles, no trailer, is free. FYI, new Matlacha Bridge construction is underway. Also, a neat tarpon-fishing-in-Matlacha video shot by Apollobeach Sam aka Sam Root. The guide, Joe Harley is my neighbor. http://www.flyfishinsalt.com/video.jsp?bclid=17709853001...

Re: Matlacha is a Must Visit Paddle-Fish Destination
Skeeter!!!, It's great to hear from you!!! Since the freeze last year snook fishing around Matlacha has been challenging, but there are fish around. If ever you are heading this way, please send me an e-mail. It would be fun to get together and fish. That might even convince John to get bac...

Re: Interesting stomach contents.
Chris, John and I agree. Your eel is most likely a member of the snake eel family, Ophichthidae. Given the pointed snout, I would ID this in the field as a Speckled worm eel, Myrophis punctatus . We do not catch many in our gear as they burrow quite deep in sandy areas during the day. FYI, they are ...

Porcelain crab- they sweep particles from the water with the feathery appendages on their mouth. We have a tank load of them. We brought a few home. Re: Stone Crab/Mud Crab? How to tell?
We catch many different mud crab species in our trawls at work. Stone crab or menippe species are but one. Juvenile menippe spp. are identified by their dark purple color with distinct white bands on their walking legs. Really little juvi's, 3-5mm carapace width look like ticks. Some small mud crabs...
