Step : 1 Mounting the Eye Straps

bracket.jpg (4198 bytes)Measure approximately 12” from bow of canoe and 2” below gunwale and mark hull.

Drill hole from outside of hull through to inside (do not use too much pressure when drilling or you may splinter the fiberglass, let the drill do the work).

Apply a coat of RTV to the screw and push through the Strap eye and hull. Thread on 2 nuts and tighten. The second nut will prevent loosening.

You may like to fit a second Strap Eye inside the hull before fitting the nuts. brackback.jpg (9483 bytes)

This will give you a handy hooking point to hang keys or such.

Wipe off any excess RTV.

Level the Strap Eye and Drill second hole, then secure as before.

Open your first beer! And enjoy.

Step 2:  Repeat Step One for Stern
Step 3:  Attach Bow Micro-Block

pulley.jpg (8123 bytes)Cut 18” of Shock Cord; use the cigarette lighter to burn the ends to prevent them from fraying.

Feed the Shock Cord onto the Micro Block.

Push both ends through Strap Eye and secure using a double overhand knot.

Step 4:  Repeat Step 3 at the Stern

Repeat Step 3 using 18” of Nylon Cord instead of Shock Cord.

Before cutting the nylon cord, wrap the cord with the masking tape and then cut. Using the scissors.

The tape stops the cord fraying, then heat the ends with the lighter to seal them.

Step 5:  Attach Nylon Cord to Steel Ring

Attach one end of the nylon cord to the Stainless oring.jpg (8779 bytes)Steel Ring. Use a secure knot we

Used a barrel knot with 4-5 turns.

Trim the tag end using the scissors.

Step 6:  Run Cord Through The Micro Blocks

RPic7.jpg (6480 bytes)un the cord through both Micro Blocks.

Take up the tension of the shock cord, enough to keep the cord snug to the canoe and still allow the cord to run through the Micro Blocks freely.

Mark the cord where the tension is right, and then tie the last free end to the steel ring.

Do not cut the end of the cord until you have secured it to the ring and made sure your knot is in the right place. Some final adjustment may be needed.

Step 7:  Install Anchor Grip Cleats

Place the anchor cleats where you are comfortable with them.Pic8.jpg (13282 bytes)

Sit in the canoe and make sure they will not impede your paddling.

Once you are happy with the position, fix to the gunwale using 2 stainless steel wood screws. Use the drill on a slow speed.

Open your final beer to celebrate a job well done

The Final Product!
