CooknFish Celebration Day

Post by Rik »

On September 8th there will be a CooknFish Celebration Day. This will be a day to celebrate the life of Mark Bellotte, give thanks for the friendship he gave many of us and the good things he did for the kayak and canoe fishing community. This is a time to be happy that Mark was a part of your life, large or small. Funny stories about Mark should be told (he provided many) and good fishing trips should be bragged about (he provided even more of these).

We'll have this at the little beach just south of the Fort Desoto toll booth on the west side of the road. The only plans are the at high noon we will gather at the waters edge, raise a paddle and make a toast to our fallen but not forgotten friend.

All are invited. Many were touched by Mark through the stories he wrote for several fishing magazines but never met him. Many met him in passing at one of the seminars he gave. Again, all are invited!

Hopefully many will get out in the morning to go fishing before gathering at the beach near noon. I know I'll be out there.

I also talked with Mike Bellotte about the huge amount of fishing 'stuff' Mark had accumulated. Mike will be bringing what he can to sell at this gathering. Bring some cash with you, Mark had good stuff!

My work schedule won't allow me to attend that day. I will however raise a paddle and a toast to the man on my own.

For those of you that are wondering how to plan that day (food and beverage), here are some things to keep in mind:

Island Way Grill: Has a ka-razee killer breakfast and equally killer view of PAG across the channel. So, that's a good option if you need to eat before you attend. They also have equally good lunch and dinner (from burgers to bring your wallet).

Tony & Nello's: Great for dinner, fresh made italian everything and portions you can't imagine. You may think their service is slow - it's not ... it's fresh and it's thorough, worth whatever wait you might endure. Supper is DONE.

Boardwalk: It's through the light leaving TV (you will see it), hang a right, bend around to the left and park. Good food, live music, good vibe, plenty of places to park your rig.

Billy's: WYSIWYG. Open, affordable, indestructable.

Anyhow, we will definitely see you folks at noon.

btw, there is no food planned so, if you want to eat something, bring your own. You'll also need to bring your own whatever for the toast at noon.

Anyone have a grill or other cooking device they can bring? I'll bring some hotdogs, buns and condiments. I just have no appropriate cooking apparatus.
