After trading in my truck for a much more practical vehicle I had to build a kayak trailer. I started off with a 12ft used Jet Ski trailer I found on Craig's list for $200. The trailer was supposed to have new bearings and a new axle. Shame on me for taking the guys word on this. After getting home I realized that the bearings and seals were shot! Lucky it made the trip.
And it begins!
Here is a photo of the axle. No good!He did replace the bearings but somehow managed to destroy the axle while doing it. Large chips of steel missing where the seal rides. Not sure why he had to hit this area with a hammer.
After purchasing new hubs, axle and upgrading the wheels from 8" to 12" it was time to get to work.
New spring perch welded to new axle
Brian welding on the uprights
Uprights,rims,axle and new wiring complete.
Beer break after installing the new fenders.
Finished Trailer
Added pool noodles wrapped in blk duct tape to protect kayaks

Over every mountain there is a path, although it may not be seen from the valley

Re: Kayak Trailer Build
Did you just "spray can" paint the trailer?
If so, how old is the paint and what brand?
How is the paint holding up?
Did you treat the galvanizing with anything before painting the trailer?
Curious minds would like to know.
